Can everyone see breakout room chat?
Messages sent in chat from a breakout room are only viewable to those in that breakout room. Main room chat sent while participants are in the breakout rooms does not show in breakout room chat. Anyone in a breakout room can click Ask For Help to request that the Host join the breakout room.
The host of the meeting will not be assigned to a breakout room and cannot see or hear what is happening in the breakout rooms during the meeting. Also, the breakout rooms cannot hear or see what is happening in the other breakout rooms as well.

Choose the number of breakout rooms, then choose an option:
- Drag participants into different rooms.
- Enter names directly into a room.
- Click Shuffle to mix the groups.
No, teachers cannot hear breakout rooms. If you are in a breakout room your teacher cannot hear anything what is being said in the breakout room. The only way a teacher can hear a breakout room is to enter the breakout room themselves.
Only the people in that specific breakout room will see your chat message. It will not be seen in other breakout rooms. Only the Host or co-host has the ability to broadcast messages to all breakout rooms.
Within the breakout rooms the chat function is disabled for all students although in the main meeting chat is enabled for them, even when they have the presenter role (see image).
As the host, you will not be sorted into one of the breakout rooms, and cannot hear what is being discussed in the Breakout Rooms. However, you can visit individual Breakout Rooms to check in on the discussions happening in a particular room.
Importantly, the breakout rooms must be monitored on the screen at all times by the teacher who creates them. If a teacher must stop monitoring one or more Google Meets (breakout rooms) for any reason, they must shut the Google Meet session down.

In-meeting chat – You can also use the chat function within your Breakout Room to message other participants in the room or share links, content, and ideas. Asking the host for help – This feature is unique to Breakout Rooms, and allows you to contact the host to let them know you need help within your Breakout Room.
Can you chat the host in Google meet?
Join a Meet video meeting. At the bottom right, click Host controls . From the side panel that opens, toggle Send chat messages on or off.
In terms of the class, if its a private 1 2 1 conversation on teams between you and your teacher then they shouldn't be able to access it, if there is anyone else in the teams chat that you shared the work on, they will be able to see it.
A breakout room is a sub-room that is used to make a large group smaller to collaborate and share out. Breakout rooms are used by educators near and far during synchronous instruction. Virtual teaching during whole group lessons does not allow for all students to unmute and share their complete thoughts.
All participants can also mute or unmute themselves, unless the host has prevented them from unmuting. Due to privacy and security reasons, the host cannot unmute other participants without their consent.
Cons: Takes more time before class to pre-load groups, which is fine if you keep the same groups all semester, but too much work for each class meeting; Groups can be uneven if some students don't show up that day.
In the meeting controls toolbar, click Chat. (More). Choose an option for Participant Can Chat With: No One: Disables in-meeting chat for everyone.
An overview of Breakout Rooms
While in a breakout room, users cannot hear audio from the main Zoom session. If the Host wishes to communicate to everyone at once, they can “Broadcast” a text-based message to all participants.
Only the host, alternative host or co-host can see and manage breakout rooms. The Host can make any participant a co-host of the meeting at any time as long as they have the co-host option TURNED ON in their Zoom Account Settings > Meeting area.
Breakout rooms allow teachers to split Zoom meeting into small group rooms. Teachers can choose to split students into breakout rooms automatically or manually. Teachers may enter any breakout room at any time and switch between them.
Chat is available in breakout rooms only if chat is enabled in the main meeting room. If the chat is enabled, the chat messages in each breakout room are only available to those participants in the breakout room.
Are Zoom breakout rooms private?
Breakout rooms are private sessions that are split off from your main Zoom meeting. The meeting host of the main session can select participants to allocate into various breakout rooms.
Note: Both the meeting host and participants need to be on Zoom 5.3. 0 or later to self-select Breakout Rooms. Screen sharing – You can share your screen in a Breakout Room just as you would in a regular meeting. However, the host must enable participants to share their screens in Breakout Rooms.
Chat in breakout rooms
Each breakout room has its own chat. All of the chats are available in your main Teams Chat list. Here you can chat with the members of any breakout room. After you join a breakout room, you can also select Chat in the room to chat with the people there.
So if you get stuck in a breakout room with your class crush and absolutely have to flirt during class time, your host isn't saving it to the cloud. So, good luck, soldier. We're all in your corner. But… the meeting host can “walk in” on your breakout room without participants knowing.
Hosts and co-hosts cannot send chat messages to the breakout rooms from the main session. While inside a room, participants cannot send chat messages to the host while inside a room, but can request assistance.

During the meeting, click Chat . , then click Save Chat. This will save your chat to your local recording location. The default is your Documents folder / Zoom / Folder with meeting name, date, and time.

Meeting organisers can assign presenters to manage breakout rooms. They are called breakout room managers. They mostly have the functionalities of a meeting organiser, such as managing rooms, allocating participants, joining different rooms, setting time limits, and so on.
